“How to install a Minecraft Mod”

Hello there! I bet you’re here for the help on installing minecraft mods. Well you’re in the right place! This guide is full of pictures to help make installing minecraft mods a breeze. I made this guide for some of my friends at school. They were having trouble installing their minecraft mods and would always ask me if I could help them install their mods. After a bunch of positive feedback from my friends I decided to help out the minecraft community and upload this guide so everyone that needs to install a minecraft mod but don’t know how will have the information needed to do so. This guide does contain pictures for every step so it’s very easy to follow.

NOTE: If you’re on this page and you have no idea what Minecraft is. It’s a 3D Sandbox creative game set in a cube world. Terrain is randomly generated and there’s multiplayer support.

1. Okay the first thing we need to do is head over to: (That’s where people post their Minecraft Mods)

http://www.minecraftforum.net/forum/51-minecraft-mods/

This is where you’ll find all the mods for minecraft. Players upload their mods in this forum so everyone can see / download. There’s a lot of nice mods on the forum, so you shouldn’t have any trouble finding one to download.

( I chose to download OptiFine in this tutorial)

2. Placing the Minecraft Mod somewhere that we can easily copy it.

After you’ve downloaded the Minecraft mod of your choice let’s begin installing the minecraft mod. The next thing we need to do is navigate to our download folder and move our mod to our desktop so we can easily access it later.

If you’re on Windows 7 or Vista click on the start menu and type “Downloads” it should be the first choice.

XP: Search for Downloads

Once you’ve found your download folder copy the mod to your desktop and move on to step 3.

3.  Okay now that you’ve downloaded the Mod the next thing we need to do is download a program called “WinWar” this allows us to open the minecraft bin so we can add our mod to the game.

(Winwar is also used for many other things. Like compressing large files, adding a password to a file, etc.)

Once you’ve downloaded and installed WinRar, continue to step 4

4. Enable HiddenFolders

Note: In order to find our Minfract folder we will need to enable Hidden Folders. The reason we need to do this is because by default your appdata folder is hidden.

in Windows 7, Windows 8 and vista: Type “Folder options” in your search bar

Step 8. Delete the META_INF folder inside Minecraft bin and close everything then run Minecraft and enjoy your game!

*NOTE* If you get a black screen and already deleted META_INF folder inside of minecrafts bin then chances are the mod you’re using isn’t compatible with the version of Minecraft you’re using.

  1. Or, you could go “link removed” and use installers. I my opinion, installers are the way of the minecraftian mod futur. no downloading extra software, takes
    5-10 seconds.

    • The mod probably isn’t compatible with your version of minecraft, buddy. If you could post more information I might be able to help you.
